Agritainment… It’s Not Cow-Tipping
A farm destination for consumers is typically referred to as "agritainment" (agriculture plus entertainment). Options range from u-pick or pick-your-own, petting zoos, hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, Halloween attractions, and a host of other non-farming events. The various forms of agritainment can be money-making ventures for the farmers. However, when completing the application or discussing their farm with their agent, insureds may neglect to address their off-season activities. It is important when reviewing the application or discussing the account that the insured is asked about any non-farming activities that occur on the premises. Agritainment is considered a business, and no coverage exists on the farm liability portion of the policy unless a class code is entered on the Farm Liability Declarations page reflecting the exposure. Overall, most agritainment activities are outside the appetite for coverage, but there are a few exceptions that can be discussed with your underwriter.
