Summit’s Medical Facility Rating System Results in More Informed Injured Worker Care
LAKELAND, Fla. – May 31, 2023 – Summit, a leading regional provider of workers’ compensation insurance services, is using a medical facility assessment tool to help ensure that injured workers receive the best care possible. This resource organizes Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data on hospitals and surgical centers, creating a standardized rating system for both patient recovery outcomes and post-operative infection rates.
Summit claims staff is able to make recommendations to medical providers based on the tool’s findings, letting doctors know when they’re referring injured workers to a facility with a poor rating and recommending that care be transferred to a facility with a better rating. Summit has been able to redirect workers with severe injuries, facing high-risk surgeries that are often complicated by comorbidities, to hospitals with higher ratings for infection safety and overall patient outcomes.
Summit believes that the ultimate solution for any workers’ comp injury is for patients to receive the right treatment so they can return to life and work as usual. And the best way to make that happen is to provide high-quality care, as soon as possible. “There’s a lot of power in having the ability to interpret data and make recommendations that can make a difference in the health and safety of an individual,” says Dr. Bob Martin, Summit medical director. “We’re providing information to help doctors make better decisions. We’re at a strong starting point, and the tool will continue to evolve in the years to come.”
