Chee Keng Koon
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Chee Keng Koon is the appointed Chief Executive Officer of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic leadership, staff development and operational management of the Singapore operation in meeting its growth objectives for all classes of business.
Mr. Chee has over 29 years of experience in leadership and management roles in the insurance industry. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Chee was the Chief Executive Officer of QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch and an Indonesia joint venture company. In addition, he was the Marine Regional General Manager for the Asia Region. Mr. Chee was also a shareholder under a joint venture arrangement with QBE Insurance (International) Limited when QBE Marine Underwriting Agency Pte. Ltd. was incorporated in 2001.
With his diverse experience and appreciation of the dynamics in the marine business and the business world, Mr. Chee transformed his previous engagements’ Marine insurance portfolio from a relatively small business to a reputable market leader in Singapore and Asia. He also led QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch to be the best non-life insurance company as awarded by World Finance.
Mr. Chee holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree in Insurance Management and is a Certified Insurance Professional by the ANZ Institute of Insurance & Finance. He is also conferred as IBF Distinguished Fellow by The Institute of Banking & Finance.
Vanessa Teo
Chief Financial and Operating Officer
Ms. Vanessa Teo is appointed as the Chief Financial and Operating Officer of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. She is to ensure that Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch is the first choice for customers and investors, by balancing financial integrity and supporting the future growth of the business and its people to achieve operational excellence. She will provide leadership in Finance, IT, Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance, Policy Administration and Administration and Corporate Services matters.
Ms. Teo has over 23 years of extensive experience in senior roles running teams in the insurance industry in Singapore and Asia. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Teo was the CFO & COO of QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch and was also involved in Asia Finance related matters. In this role, she led the development and delivery of finance strategy, while building a collaborative team within the organization, and building consistency in quality, methodology and reporting. In addition, she worked through issues with auditors and executives by delivering value and insight to the business. Ms. Teo has experience working as a Business Consultant of the Insurance Australia Group (IAG) based in Australia. She was also the Head of Finance with ACE Insurance Ltd and GE Insurance Solutions. Her insurance career began as a Regional Internal Auditor with American Insurance Group (AIG) auditing both life and non-life insurance operations within the AIG group of companies in Asia.
Ms. Teo holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School and was admitted Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) by The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK). She is a qualified Fellow, Chartered Accountant of Singapore by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) by Life Office Management Association, Inc. and emplaced as an ASEAN Chartered Professional Accountant.
Ian Lee
Director, Risk Management & Compliance
Mr. Ian Lee is the appointed Director, Risk Management & Compliance of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for shaping the risk management and compliance framework and culture within the Singapore operation. He will assist the CEO to lead the operation in meeting its regulatory compliance obligations.
Mr. Lee has over 10 years of experience within the insurance risk management and compliance area and he has developed extensive knowledge in ERM, capital modelling and risk management framework. Prior to this appointment, he was the Manager, Risk Management of QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch. He was responsible for the entire risk management and compliance function within the company. Mr. Lee also spent seven years with the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Insurance Supervision Department having held the position of Deputy Director.
Mr. Lee holds Bachelor’s degrees (BSc/BA) with Nanyang Technological University and a Diploma in Actuarial Techniques with the Institute of Actuaries (UK). He also holds Certificates in Life Insurance and Personal General Insurance with the Singapore College of Insurance.
Heng Shoon Kwang
Director, Distribution
Mr. Heng Shoon Kwang is the appointed Director, Distribution of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic leadership in the distribution and business development within the Singapore operation. He will assist the CEO in leading the distribution teams and channels, including shaping the agency and FA frameworks to meet revenue and growth objectives for all classes of business.
Mr. Heng has over 18 years of experience in the insurance industry, holding various roles within the sales, distribution and business development areas. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Heng was the Head of Agency with Manulife (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. In this role, he managed the agency and financial advisors portfolio, and led the agency force to achieve improved productivity and exceeded budget for both top and bottom-line year on year through effective team management, service engagement and robust business development. Mr. Heng has experience working in business development, corporate sales, agency management, and employee benefits underwriting in Prudential Assurance Company Singapore (Pte.) Limited, American Insurance Group and American Insurance Assurance Company, Ltd.
Mr. Heng holds a Bachelor of Banking & Finance/Economics degree with Western Michigan University. He is also a qualified Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) by Life Office Management Association, Inc., and holds Certificates in General Insurance, Health Insurance, and Marine Insurance Underwriting with the Singapore College of Insurance.
Moonkee Choi
Senior Director, Korea Market
Mr. Choi Moonkee is the appointed Senior Director, Korea Market of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he oversees the strategic direction of underwriting, portfolio management and professional development for the Korean Market. He will assist the CEO to lead the operation in meeting its growth objectives for the Korean business.
Mr. Choi has over 20 years of experience within the Marine insurance sector in Korea, undertaking roles in management, insurance underwriting and claims specializing in Cargo/Hull, as well as Casualty and Engineering. Prior to this, he was the Head of Marine & Channel Management with ACE American Fire & Marine Insurance Company in Korea.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Myongji University, as well as a qualification for Technical Insurance Practice issued by the Chartered Insurance Institute, which is equivalent to CII Diploma. He is also a certified Loss Adjuster by the regulation of Article 144 (Para 2) of rules for operation of Insurance Supervisory Regulations issued by the Insurance Supervisory Board.
Larry Kwok
Senior Director, Marine Asia (excluding Korea Market)
Mr. Larry Kwok is the appointed Senior Director, Marine Asia (excluding Korean Market) of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he oversees the strategic direction of underwriting, portfolio management and professional development for both the Marine Southeast Asia and North Asia Market (excluding Korea Market). He will assist the CEO to lead the operation in meeting its growth objectives for Marine business.
Mr. Kwok has 18 years of experience in the insurance industry, holding various senior underwriting and management roles with a specialty focus on Marine insurance classes. Mr. Kwok began his career as a Marine Trainee in the claims department of Jardine Insurance Brokers, where he gained knowledge in a wide-range of disciplines including Cargo, Hull, Port and Terminal, and Freight Forwarder Liability. He then joined the world's biggest P&I Club at that time as a Claims Executive where he further enhanced his Marine knowledge particularly in the liability related areas for Ship Owner, Freight Forwarder, and Port and Terminal Operator. Mr. Kwok started his underwriting career in 2004 by joining Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited as Deputy Marine Manager. He then became the Marine Manager of ACE Insurance Limited for the Greater China region where he was responsible for the profitable growth of the Marine portfolio and instrumental in drafting and launching the Freight Forwarder Liability Policy. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Kwok was the Managing Director of SART Specialty Limited, heading the overall operation by providing technical Marine underwriting and business development leadership to the team for the Asia Pacific region.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Transport and Logistics Management at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. He further obtained his Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from Manchester Metropolitan University and pursued his Master of Laws (LLM) in Maritime and Transportation Law stream at City University of Hong Kong. He is a Senior Associate member of The Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF).
Chris Ang
Director, P&C Underwriting
Mr. Chris Ang is the appointed Director, P&C Underwriting of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he oversees the strategic direction of underwriting, portfolio management and professional development of the Property & Casualty Underwriting Division. He assists the CEO in leading the operation in meeting the strategic growth objectives for the P&C business.
Mr. Ang has over 15 years of experience in the General Insurance Industry as an accomplished Underwriter across the various General Insurance classes of business. Prior to his appointment with the Company, he was the Head of Casualty for AXA Insurance Pte Ltd. He had also accumulated his wealth of underwriting experience previously while serving with Chubb Insurance Singapore Limited, MSIG Insurance (Singapore) Pte Ltd, XL Insurance Company SE (Singapore Branch), Tenet Sompo Insurance Pte Ltd, Chartis (AIG) and NTUC Income Insurance Cooperative.
Mr. Ang holds a Bachelor of Science (Business) awarded by the University of London. He holds a Diploma in General Insurance and Risk Management as well as Certificates in General Insurance, Health Insurance, M5 and M9.
Daryatmo Oei
Director, Information Technology
Mr. Daryatmo Oei is appointed as Director, Information Technology of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore branch. In this role, he is responsible to provide leadership in the Information Technology environment, including effective oversight of technology and cyber risks. Mr. Oei will assist the CEO and CFOO in establishing and maintaining a sound technology risk management framework and strategy, managing technology risk based on the established framework, ensuring standards and procedures are implemented effectively.
Mr Oei has 21 years of experience in the IT area, with 10 years spent in insurance industry holding various roles such as project management, system implementation, training, IT operations, vendor management, etc. Prior to his appointment, Dary worked with Aviva Asia Pte Ltd, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty and Allianz Insurance Company Singapore Pte Ltd. Mr Oei also spent some time working as the IT Head in Indonesia and supporting the Asia region.
Mr Oei holds a Master’s in information technology from the National University of Singapore and Bachelor of Management from the University of Tarumanagara, Jakarta. He also holds Certificate Information System Audit (CISA).
Lim Meng Juan
Director, Claims
Mr. Lim Meng Juan is the appointed Director, Claims Division of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic leadership in claims management within the Singapore Operations. He oversees the claims management for both the Marine and Property & Casualty classes of business. His responsibility includes driving best practices and delivering the best claims services to our clients.
He has more than 15 years of experience in the Insurance Industry focusing on Claims across the Asia Pacific Region with his main expertise in Marine field. Prior to this appointment, he was heading the Claims team and providing comprehensive claims solutions and consultation in his previous companies.
He has a Graduate Diploma in Maritime Law and Arbitration awarded by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and has obtained his navigational qualifications from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
