In the United States, a mix of threats, threat extortions, and workplace violence threats. Significant increase in the number of kidnap and threat cases in Ecuador.

Kidnaps worldwide, by duration and outcome, 2023. Vast majority of kidnaps in 2023 continue to be resolved within one week. Very small percentage of victims (.34%) of victims were killed by their captors – most deaths were due to pre-existing conditions, lack of medical care during their captivity, or accidents during transportation.
