Environmental Team Welcomes Randy Copenhaver
In an effort to ensure we are the insurance company of choice for environmental insurance brokers, it is important we establish a strong and dynamic team. Each issue of Environmental Insider will introduce you to members of our team and describe the unique role they play to support you and your clients.
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division welcomes Randy Copenhaver to its Technical Support department as a Senior Loss Control Consultant. Utilizing his specialization in site remediation, he will provide expertise in environmental evaluation to support underwriters in risk identification while crafting policies. Randy will be stationed in our Exton, Pennsylvania office.
Randy earned his Bachelor of Science with a focus in geology and a minor in religious studies from Lafayette College. While obtaining his degree, Randy was a DJ and program manager for the college local radio station and a member of the ultimate frisbee club. He currently leads his hometown community ultimate frisbee club in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
“I’ve always had a passion for outdoor activities – camping, canoeing, and hiking, in particular,” Randy said. “After college, I wanted to pursue a career in restoring the environment while capitalizing on my geology degree. Environmental science has presented extensive learning opportunities throughout my career due to its constant evolving and adapting nature.”
Randy has accumulated over 18 years of geology, environmental consulting, and project management experience. He is a New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional and Pennsylvania Professional Geologist. In addition to his extensive professional background, Randy currently is an active member of the Licensed Site Remediation Professional Association and Environmental Banker’s Association.
Randy began his career as a Staff Geologist for a multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consulting company, increasing responsibilities over time and ultimately being promoted to a project geologist role. He gained broad environmental assessment compliance and remediation experience, predominately in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas. Randy conducted and managed environmental consulting activities such as site investigation, remediation, waste management, air monitoring, regulatory reporting, and transactional due diligence for construction, commercial, manufacturing, and brownfields properties on behalf of clients from diverse industries.
Prior to joining Great American, Randy served as Senior Project Manager for an environmental consulting company, specializing in site assessment and remediation services. In his role, he managed projects, was the LSRP of Record for the company’s New Jersey sites, and mentored staff. Randy acted as the company’s subject matter expert for New Jersey regulations and Phase I ESA due diligence to assist improving standards and practices for conducting Phase I ESAs as well as other remedial actions.
“I’m excited to provide technical support to the Division by applying my environmental expertise in a new industry,” Randy said.
