Environmental Team Welcomes Marissa LaBrocca
In an effort to ensure we are the insurance company of choice for environmental insurance brokers, it is important we establish a strong and dynamic team. Each issue of Environmental Insider will introduce you to members of our team and describe the unique role they play to support you and your clients.
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division welcomes Marissa LaBrocca to its Executive Underwriting department as an Executive Underwriter as well as a Contracts Counselor within the Legal team. This dual role will blend Marissa’s experiences in commercial insurance defense and environmental underwriting to drive the Division’s strategic vision. Marissa will focus on specialty underwriting, referrals, contracts and manuscripts, auditing, and back-office support.
Marissa received her Bachelor of Arts in economics and communication from Rutgers University. She then went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Loyola University’s Chicago School of Law. While obtaining her degree, Marissa co-founded the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, and leveraged her interests in this sector through an internship with a professional sports agency. Marissa evaluated player contracts and studied regulations of athletic organizations to identify the rights of athletes. During Marissa’s time at Loyola, she also worked with the City of Chicago Board of Education to prepare cases related to employment, offering her an even broader understanding of contract law.
In conjunction with her legal education, Marissa also studied at Loyola University’s Quinlan School of Business and received her Master of Business Administration. After completing her degree, Marissa worked as a law clerk with a boutique law firm and managed cases concerning insurance coverage, construction defect, and employment law.
Prior to joining Great American, Marissa most recently worked with an environmental insurance MGA as an underwriting specialist and business controls officer, combining her insurance and legal expertise. Her responsibilities included managing compliance matters, reviewing competitor policy forms and endorsements and advising underwriters on market trends relating to coverage offerings by competing carriers, reviewing contracts during the underwriting process, including indemnification and hold harmless agreements, drafting insurance policies and related endorsements, and supporting the overall company objectives and goals through strategic evaluation and risk selection of target classes of business. Marissa’s understanding of crafting thorough environmental policies while also assessing potential legal implications will greatly benefit our team’s ability to serve our clients.
“The environmental field is constantly evolving, with new regulatory requirements being implemented each year,” Marissa said. “Taking on a hybrid role will allow me to build upon my previous experiences and contribute to the instrumental collaboration and overall success of the team!”
Marissa, along with the team of experts at Great American Environmental, can assist in uncovering the hidden risks in your clients’ operations and develop a custom program to help protect them.
