Environmental Team Welcomes Benjamin Volin-Kelder

Each issue of Environmental Insider will introduce you to members of our team and describe the unique role they play to support you and your clients.

Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division welcomes Benjamin Volin-Kelder to its Executive Underwriting department as a senior underwriter, specializing in storage tank pollution liability. In his newly developed role, Ben will assist in spearheading the underwriting efforts and business opportunities for the division’s new storage tank program.

Ben earned his Bachelor of Arts with a focus in communication studies and a minor in marketing from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. While obtaining his degree, he worked as a landscape design associate throughout his summer semesters, assisting on regeneration and development projects for privately owned residential properties.

In the year following graduation, Ben had the opportunity to travel internationally to Europe, Israel and throughout Southeast Asia. During this transitional year, he also participated in a volunteer program with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in Tennessee upholding the maintenance and preservation of the trail.

Ben has accumulated over five years of underwriting experience in the property and casualty insurance industry. He began his career in an accelerated underwriting program with a leading global insurance company, where he quickly transitioned to a commercial underwriter focusing on general liability, property package, umbrella, and liquor liability. In this role, Ben also served as co-product lead for a childcare business owners package and assisted with the process of expanding the admitted filing of the program.

“I’ve always had an interest in pursuing a role that allows me to tailor my environmental passion and business background into a career,” Ben said.

Prior to joining Great American, Ben transitioned into the storage tank sector as an environmental underwriter handling pollution liability in the Midwest and New York regions for above and below ground storage tanks within the retail space.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to leverage my prior experience to further my career within the environmental sector and support the strategic program growth of the division,” Ben said.
