Working In Our Community: Day of Service
As a part of our 10-year anniversary celebration, the Environmental Division participated in a day of service at our annual divisional meeting. Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit providing essential items to more than 70,000 children, living in homeless or low-income situations, across the Delaware Valley. Additional locations include the Boston and Chicago areas.
Lisa Callahan, a senior attorney with the claims department, helped organize the event for the division. “We chose this organization because it was an opportunity for us to do something for kids who don’t have the opportunities or means our children have,” Callahan said. “Cradles to Crayons mission of service spoke to our mission.”
The team at Cradles to Crayons expressed their excitement for such a large group visit, and all the donations the Environmental Division had gathered. In fact, the socks and underwear donations in particular went into “KidPacks” that were delivered to families that day.
While this was something many from the group would never have done otherwise, the positive feedback received confirmed this would become an annual event for the division.
“Our team truly loved the energy that volunteering created amongst the group,” Callahan said. “As much as we thought this was an opportunity for the kids, it had way more of an impact on us.”
Mark Vuono, Environmental President, found this team building event not only added to the positive chemistry of the group but was also worthwhile. “Seeing everyone working hard and having fun at the same time was inspiring,” Vuono said.
If you are interested in helping with this organization, there are many ways to become involved:
